Screenshot 2024 01 25 1052172023 was a very busy year at Permabond with 2024 set to be even busier still! To start the year off with a bang, we have a range of exciting new products being launched over the next few weeks. Below we’ll go into detail about why we’re so excited about these new products, as well as why you might want to get your hands on them!

A jet-black finish without the slump

At Permabond, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality, innovative adhesives at fair prices, and the products being launched this year all reflect that. First of all, we’ll be launching Permabond TA4208 Black, a high-viscosity, jet black structural acrylic adhesive. Its high viscosity means it’s great for vertical applications, as it doesn’t slump or sag. One of its standout features is its surface adhesion technology, which means it can bond even through oxide layers or oily surfaces. This minimises the need for surface preparation and thus saves precious time, which is of particular importance in busy production lines. It also reduces the need for solvents in the workplace.

Bonding well to most substrates, its jet black colour makes it particularly suitable to colour matching carbon fibre and other black materials such as dark plastics. TA4208 Black has fantastic flow control and is great at bonding dissimilar substrates. It also offers very rapid strength development, with a working cure, providing both high shear and peel strength, achieved just 20 minutes after bonding!

Target Applications include:

  • Composite bonding
  • Automotive applications (composites are frequently used in this industry)
  • Wind turbines
  • Sports equipment
  • Medical equipment, such as prosthetics

A water-resistant cyanoacrylate? Water-you waiting for?

Then there’s Permabond 712, a real breakthrough cyanoacrylate adhesive. Why breakthrough? Because it can withstand both continuous water exposure, as well as hot and humid environments once bonded. Most cyanoacrylates either degrade or severely weaken under such conditions, but not 712! Not only that, but you get an almost instant cure, as with most cyanoacrylates, and it bonds well on many substrates, including rubber. This makes it ideal for pipe sealing, gasket bonding, and bonding valve seatings.

Being able to withstand continuous heat and humidity, and comfortably passing 85/85 (85°C/85% relative humidity) testing, 712 is also highly suited to automotive interior applications. It has a low viscosity, is solvent-free and very easy to dispense.

Permabond 130UV – combining the best of both worlds

Another breakthrough adhesive we’ll be launching soon is 130UV, the first dual-curing cyanoacrylate/UV adhesive in our range. This adhesive combines the best aspects of both a cyanoacrylate and a UV cure, allowing manufacturers optimum convenience and ease of bonding. The moisture cure of the cyanoacrylate works to ensure no shadow areas remain after UV light curing, while the possibility of a UV cure works to eliminate the blooming effect often seen with cyanoacrylates. This makes this adhesive particularly well-suited for electronics manufacturers, for example manufacturers of PCBs, where shadow adhesive areas are a common concern.

Its cyanoacrylate technology means that it is able to bond rubber well, unlike most UV-curable adhesives. Again, for electronics manufacturers, this is good news for bonding and sealing of cables, as the adhesive will provide a 100% seal where the cable joins into housing. The adhesive is also fully RoHS compliant and has excellent environmental resistance, having passed 85/85 testing. Another benefit is its low-hazard SDS. This, all the while offering a cure in seconds and a very strong, resilient bond, makes 130UV the new go-to tool for your adhesive arsenal.

We’re proud to say that these products are just the tip of the iceberg! The buck doesn’t just stop with our product launches, however. We’re also set to be featuring at an array of trade shows this year, both at home and abroad – more than we’ve ever done before! As usual, we begin the year very close to home at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics in Farnborough. Permabond has a great affinity with this show, and we have been exhibiting there every year for over a decade. This year you’ll find us at stand A165, right by the entrance – we’d love to see you there for a chat!
