As a new era of e-mobility emerges, it’s accompanied by new manufacturing challenges that require new material solutions. Companies must innovate in order to meet these challenges. TECHSiL’s advanced material solutions, with support from their trusted supply partners, play an essential role in the vehicles of today and tomorrow. From thermal management and battery solutions to cable and connector materials; from sensor coatings to adhesives and seals — TECHSiL’s innovative silicones and UV materials help shape the future of e-mobility and drive our new vehicles forward.
E-mobility Applications
Vehicle power electronics process, control and distribute electric power to other vehicle systems, as well as control the speed and torque of the motor. Momentive Performance Materials, TECHSiL’s key manufacturing partner, provide silicone solutions offer which offer thermal management, encapsulation/potting, and sealing for power electronics, including inverter systems (and IGBT modules), DC/DC converters, and onboard chargers.
Cell Contacting Systems and Battery Packs
In an era of rapid technological advancements, the market for cell contacting systems and battery packs is experiencing a paradigm shift, thanks to innovative adhesive solutions. TECHSiL works alongside Panacol, a leading manufacturer of cutting-edge industrial UV, structural and conductive adhesives, to proudly put forwards its contributions to this industry transformation.
With the growing demand for efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions, cell contacting systems and battery packs play a crucial role in powering various applications, including electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and portable electronics. The reliability and performance of these systems heavily rely on the quality and integrity of the adhesives used in their assembly.
Offering enhanced electrical conductivity, superior adhesion strength, chemical and environmental resistance and thermal management the range of grades TECHSiL can offer recognises the critical needs this assembly requires.
Products to Consider
UV-curing adhesives Vitralit® UV 2113 and Vitralit® UV 2114 are characterised by very high adhesion to many materials and meet the requirements of the automotive industry in terms of media and temperature resistance. The rheological properties of both Vitralit® UV 2113 and Vitralit® UV 2114 can be adapted to individual customer requirements. Fluorescent adhesive variations for optical process control are also available.
In just a few seconds, these adhesives can be cured with light in the UVA or visible range. Both gas discharge lamps and LED spot systems can be used for curing. Perfectly matched to Panacol adhesives are the UV and LED UV curing systems from Dr. Hönle, for example the high-intensity LED Powerline AC/IC HP.
For complex CCS geometries with shadowed areas, dual curing Vitralit® UD 8050 is the perfect choice. After UV irradiation, this ion-pure acrylate adhesive postcures in the shadowed areas by reacting with humidity in the air.
EV Thermal Solutions
Coolant heaters improve battery performance by delivering consistent temperature distribution inside the battery pack and its cells. Silicone applications here include encapsulation, connector potting, thermal management, and sealing adhesives. The electric coolant pump regulates and provides coolant to the cooling system. Silicone applications here include encapsulation and connector potting, thermal management, and sealing adhesive. PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Air Heater heats the vehicle cabin using high-voltage electricity from the battery or hydrogen cell. Silicone applications here include encapsulation, connector potting, thermal management, sealing adhesives, and structural adhesives.
Products to Consider
Momentives SilCool™ Thermal Management Series offer very low thermal resistance coupled with high reliability. TIA241GF for example is a thermal gap filler which can be dispensed as a liquid then cured in place to create a heat path for efficient heat transfer, recommended for use in a broad array of electronic component thermal designs. TIG210BX is a thermal silicone ideal for use between hear spreaders and heat sinks, it exhibits virtually no oil separation and very minimal weight loss at elevated temperatures which contributes to its’ stability under broad operational temperatures.
Momentives Snapsil™ Adhesive Series offer adhesion to various substrates coupled with outstanding mechanical properties. It is a comprehensive range one component silicone adhesive sealants which are non-corrosive, have low volatility, can provide flame retardancy and offer a fast cure at room temperature.
TECHSiL also supply a large range of potting and encapsulation materials offer outstanding protection to electronic components from dust, moisture, fluids and harmful environmental contaminants.
