New from Beckhoff Automation are the ED series EtherCAT Terminals. These provide machine builders and control engineers with a modernised I/O solution that combines faster installation, simplified diagnostics and seamless compatibility with existing EtherCAT systems.

The upgraded IP20 terminals build on more than two decades of EtherCAT Terminal development, helping users improve efficiency while protecting existing investments.

The series introduces a redesigned housing, tool-free push-in connection technology and app-based diagnostics via an integrated DataMatrix code (DMC). The new terminals remain fully compatible with previous EtherCAT Terminal generations, enabling straightforward upgrades without requiring changes to existing control architectures.

The ED series has been developed to simplify installation, commissioning and maintenance. Faster wiring and easier diagnostics help reduce downtime and improve system availability, while integrated traceability features support quality assurance processes and streamline spare parts management.

“The ED series represents the next step in the evolution of our EtherCAT Terminal technology,” explained Mark Richards, UK sales manager, at Beckhoff Automation UK. “By maintaining full compatibility with existing systems while introducing practical improvements for installation and diagnostics, we are helping users enhance productivity and future-proof their automation investments.”

Flexible integration options enable the ED terminals to adapt to changing machine requirements and support future system expansions. This provides users with greater long-term flexibility while reducing the need for extensive modifications as applications evolve.
