Our FDB Rocfast lock assembly service is core to the enclosure manufacturing and installation industry which frequently requires batches of totally bespoke locks built to order on an urgent basis. This specialist service is massively important to these customers, and fills a gap where few lock suppliers are able to offer an end-to-end custom assembly and logistics package, eliminating unnecessary on-site operations.

Rocfast enables an optimal selection of components across the range of zinc die, chrome, stainless and polyamide pieces offering the advantages of mixing components of different materials to match the application. For example, a polyamide housing may be matched with a 316 stainless steel insert and 304 internal components giving an improved feel with corrosion resistance suitable for arduous environments, together with a useful cost saving.

We hear quite a lot about re-shoring of manufacturing to the UK, Europe and the US – and certainly from the interest and business levels we see reported at exhibitions and the trade media, despite the protracted Brexit situation, this seems to be a time of growth for UK manufacturing companies – who are often now stretched to increase output on the same staffing levels – and this is where our Rocfast assembly and logistics program can come to the rescue – by speeding specification, dealing with assembly and packaging followed by delivery direct to production facility or installation site worldwide.

The Rocfast program focuses primarily on lock assembly including all major industry brands – it includes all ¼ turn favourites with appropriate keys, with IP rated sealing if required, with cams of all types, This specialist service program can efficiently deal with modern modular component systems or traditional single kit formats and with one-off or scheduled program deliveries as well as separate packaging of locks/backnuts/keys etc to suit logistical requirements. Where required complete fitting kits can be supplied including lock/s, hinges, gasket, and with lock cylinders+keys forwarded to a separate destination if desired.

Typically this could involve a careful investigation of the specification and supply parameters so that for example a suitable assembly of ¼ turn camlock, budget lock or stainless steel lock might be identified – coupled with perhaps a piano hinge or internal weld-on hinges – packed together with a pre-cut length of clip on sealing profile – with packs to be delivered in batch quantities.

Our well established Rocfast program saves time, money and mistakes by guiding customers through the process of specification, component matching, ordering, assembly, packaging and logistics – direct to site – worldwide. Now it covers the extra sealing requirements of high degrees of dust and water protection up to IP66 and IP67. Most common lock applications require the lower levels of IP54, however in external use IP65 may be needed and for harsh external or heavy hose down areas, then IP66 or IP67 is appropriate. IP67 entails submersion testing for even greater peace of mind.

These higher levels of sealing are generally achieved by use of single or double O rings. The Rocfast program ensures correct specification, correct assembly and correct logistics, which exemplifies the versatility and level of service provided. Locks are generally available from ex-stock components so ensuring a rapid delivery process.

The Rocfast service covers all products encompassed in our profile – this includes: budget locks, camlocks, compression locks, knob locks, rod locks, spanner locks, waterproof locks, toggle latches, concealed hinges, flush hinges, butt hinges, lift-off hinges, ‘piano’ hinges, stainless hinges, weld-on hinges, earth bars/busbars, flush handles, grab handles, lever handles, tee handles, paddle handles, padlocks, support stays and seals/gaskets.

A good example is accessible ex-stock through our Online store for quarter turn locks in stainless steel – these cover compression, food/clean room, hygiene areas, washdown, outdoor and harsh industrial area applications such as rail, chemical plant, agricultural and similar.Under our Rocfast system customers can simply – pick a housing, pick an insert, pick a cam – tell us where you want them, how you want them assembled, how many you want when and where – then let us do the rest.

Our Rocfast guide to lock assembly now available free from www.fdb.co.uk/rocfastdownloads is a how-to-do-it selection assistant from our respected experts in specialist cabinet and enclosure hardware.

Customers are walked through the logical process of determining which housing, insert, cam, cut-out, and/or cam adapter may be required for standard or extended body locks in common finishes and how to select the correct part number to ensure the desired part is ordered. Accessories such as handle inserts, dust caps and finger pulls, serrated lock washers and earth nuts are highlighted, as are slide shoes for cams which help provide a positive compression while reducing the friction and paint damage caused by constant operation.
