New from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence’s Stationary Metrology Division is VGSTUDIO MAX 2026.2, which brings a new approach to multi-part coordinate measurement (CM) workflows alongside a fully restructured NextGen product portfolio.

The release enables quality teams to load entire batches of CT scans, define measurements once, and have the software automatically apply and synchronize them across every part in the project, minimizing the manual effort that constrains high-volume inspection operations.

For precision manufacturers in aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and electronics, dimensional consistency across a production run is critical. However, traditional CT inspection workflows force quality teams to configure measurement plans part by part, synchronize objects manually across scans, and consolidate results from multiple files, introducing variability, consuming engineering time, and slowing decisions precisely when production speed demands the opposite.

“Manufacturers running high-throughput CT inspection have told us for years that the biggest drain on their quality teams isn’t the scanning, but everything that comes after. For instance, reconfiguring measurement plans, manually keeping objects in sync, or assembling results from a dozen separate files,” said Peter Lohel, Product Marketing Manager, Hexagon Stationary Metrology Division. “VGSTUDIO MAX 2026.2 fundamentally changes that, and users can define their measurements once, then the software does the rest; consistently, automatically, across every part in the batch.”

Key capabilities and benefits

•Automated measurement synchronization: All CM objects are kept consistent across parts automatically, eliminating manual updates and reducing inspection preparation time by up to 50 percent.

•Single-scene batch management: Multiple CT scans can be loaded, measured, and compared within a single project, removing file-juggling and enabling instant cross-part deviation analysis.

•Flexible workflow control: Users can define multiple measurement groups, detach individual elements, or set part-specific exceptions with software that adapts to individual workflows.

•Integrated CM overview and reporting: The CM Overview is built directly into the multi-part workflow, enabling robust metrology programming with ease by applying quality control charts and statistical process control values.

•Competitive differentiation: The integrated multi-part workflow,  combining automatic synchronization, one-time measurement setup, and unified scene management, represents a best-in-class level of end-to-end usability, making the solution fast and flexible.

•Faster project setup: The new multi-part workflow reduces overall project creation time by up to 50 percent, a meaningful gain for metrology teams managing high-volume inspection schedules.

The portfolio

VGSTUDIO MAX 2026.2 also introduces Hexagon’s refreshed NextGen product portfolio, giving teams a clearer path to the right tool for their workflow. The lineup now spans five editions:

•VGSTUDIO MAX Essential: A comprehensive entry-level package for visual inspection and basic analysis. It includes subvoxel-precise surface determination, simple measurement tools, CT reconstruction, deep segmentation, and high-speed porosity detection and visualization.

•VGSTUDIO MAX Dimensions: Brings together all advanced tools in one package, including full GD&T functionality, wall thickness analysis, nominal/actual comparison, deformation analysis, CAD import with PMI, reverse engineering, and fixture simulation. With features like the Multipart Group, users can efficiently create and manage robust measurement plans across multiple parts.

•VGSTUDIO MAX Analysis: Tailored for casting and material science applications, this edition combines all voxel-based analysis tools such as porosity and inclusion analysis, fiber orientation analysis, foam and powder analysis, and digital volume correlation. Volume meshing enables seamless transfer of data into simulation workflows.

•VGSTUDIO MAX Battery: A specialized solution for the battery industry, combining the full capabilities of the Analysis edition with dedicated battery analysis tools.

•VGSTUDIO MAX Pro: The complete package, offering the full spectrum of VGSTUDIO MAX functionality for maximum flexibility and performance.

The 2026.2 release also delivers a range of additional enhancements including expanded GelSight profile roughness analysis, surface detect detection, support for the ASTM E57 point cloud file format, a fully redesigned displacement analysis interface, ISO 5459:2024 datum fit compliance, and a fast mode for porosity and inclusion analysis that significantly accelerates inspection of large datasets.

The release also extends the NextGen structure to VGMETROLOGY, now available in Essential and Pro editions. Maintenance customers have access to built-in tutorial videos that speed onboarding and accelerate adoption of new features.

Additionally, the new editions deliver substantially more value than their predecessors, with the restructured portfolio offering a price advantage of up to 80 percent compared to the previous lineup, depending on the configuration. Customers with an active maintenance agreement receive a full waiver of portfolio migration costs in the first year.
