Nord-Lock wedge-locking technology
Nord-Lock wedge-locking products are recognized around the world for their ability to secure bolted joints exposed to severe vibration and dynamic loads. The system comprises of a pair of lock washers that has cams on one side with a rise greater than the pitch of the bolt, and radial teeth on the opposite side. The principle utilizes tension and the system cannot loosen unintentionally as it creates a wedge underneath the bolt head/nut.
Nord-Lock washers maintain high clamp loads, are quick and easy to install and remove, and are reusable. Nord-Lock product range also offers wheel nuts, combi bolts and custom solutions that are based on the same wedge-locking principle.
Nord-Lock multifunctional wedge-locking technology
The recently launched X-series is the world’s first multifunctional washer. The solution combines Nord-Lock’s unmatched wedge-locking protection against spontaneous bolt loosening with an elastic reserve to compensate for the loss of preload due to settlement and relaxation.
The X-series technology provides bolt security independent of the critical loosening factor. This solution is ideal for applications that incorporate painted surfaces, soft metals, composites, multiple clamped parts, gasket joints, short clamp length, and more. Simplifying the design with a single solution and rationalizing the number and type of securing components are just a few out of many benefits.
Nut or bolt style multi-jackbolt tensioners
Superbolt multi-jackbolt tensioners are very useful for tightening nuts greater than 1in in diameter and are designed as direct replacements for conventional bolted joints. Instead of having to generate enough torque to tighten an entire hex nut, MJT’s break the torque requirement down by utilizing a series of jackbolts threaded through the body of a round tensioner. Tightening the jackbolts enables the user to generate the needed clamping load while using only hand or air tools for installation and removal.
Customers experience dramatic time-savings compared to other bolting methods. Since only hand tools are used, worker safety is greatly increased, and common injuries associated with bolting methods are eliminated.
Expansion bolting
Utilizing Superbolt technology, Nord-Lock is able to offer tremendous radial expansion and joint clamping power in one bolting system. The Expansion bolts replace traditional interference or force fit bolts. Radial expansion is critical for rotating couplings or alignment systems that require the bolts to be able to transfer forces in shear.
The key to this technology is the split expansion sleeve that mates with the customer’s machined holes. The split sleeve requires less tolerance on mating parts than is traditionally required with interference fit or hydraulic systems, saving critical machining time.
