IGUS UK has announced the winners of its manus awards.

Firstly, the manus Plastic Bearing Innovation award has been presented to Trailerteq, with the award recognising the company’s use of a polymer bearing to provide a dependable and cost-effective solution to a challenging engineering problem.

Trailerteq’s compact Rapid Deployment Transporter (RDT) fits into the back of an ordinary van, but can be deployed in minutes to form a robust and reliable towing trailer for transporting vehicles ranging from motorbikes and cars to small vans.  Engineers at the company selected the igus range of iglidur polymer bearings which have high compressive strength coupled with high elasticity, require no lubrication or other maintenance, and are highly resistant to the effects of dirt ingress or other contamination.

“We selected this application for the manus Plastic Bearing Innovation award because it is an excellent example of how the use of a polymer bearing can transform the performance of a product, while helping to reduce costs,” said Matthew Aldridge of igus UK.

MBP Concepts, meanwhile, received the Most Eye-Catching Design award, which recognises companies that make use of plastic bearings in an innovative product. The bearings were used in the Tyligo Premium, a multipurpose folding trailer designed to allow valuable items of equipment – such as motorcycles, quad bikes, jet skis, etc. – to be safely and securely towed behind a vehicle.

The trailer uses the igus iglidur sleeve bearing. Aldridge said: “We are always pleased to see an iglidur bearing being used in an unusual application, and for solving engineering problems that would be difficult to address in any other way.”
