emka design solutions newsletter august 2017 1 mediumThe new EMKA quarter-turn latch replaces the ruggedness of zinc die with robust engineering grade polyamide in an IP69K quick clip-fit assembly which enables time and cost savings in the production phase of enclosures, housings and access panels, while ensuring an exceptionally high degree of sealing for harsh environments.

Insert/escutcheon assemblies are available in zinc die/polyamide, polyamide/zinc and zinc/zinc with rear assembly and cam in polyamide – they are suitable for panel thicknesses of 1.0mm to 1.5mm using a standard EMKA cut-out.

EMKA are proud to be known as a company who make installer needs a priority, so they think this integrated ¼ turn lock offering IP65 protection is a real star. It is ideal for closure and locking of wall mounting enclosures, small free-standing cabinets or for use on equipment boxes in arduous environments. The ¼ turn mechanism includes the lock body and a suitable cam, together with internal sealing components. Installers therefore cannot lose the sealing elements – there are no fiddly items, just the assembled lock, which offers IP65 protection, and a backnut with which to hold it in place.

emka design solutions newsletter august 2017 2 mediumSpeed of fitment and security in operation are vital, so the EMKA TPE sealing system and well proven modular design in polyamide both ensure that performance is guaranteed. A single operation is all that is required for installation and the TPE sealing system protects against water, alcohol, antifreeze, saline, sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid and soda.

As one would expect this ¼ turn lock is offered with a wide range of key possibilities to match a user’s security needs, e.g. square, triangular, double-bar etc.

The EMKA quick fixing pin system for hinge installation forms part of the 1110 Hinge Programme, together with a cut-out profile which minimises material removal from the cabinet door flange, so maintaining door strength with flanges down to 28mm or even 20mm.

A simple cut out and tool-less one-step fixing offer tremendous time savings in installation of enclosure doors at manufacture or in removal/refitting on site. This ingenious system is becoming a favourite with specialist panel builders/installers who see real benefits in speed, strength and simplicity.

The 1110 Programme features full 180° opening for adjacent doors in suite style runs where cabinets are joined together side by side. The 50mm 1110 is a zinc die unit finished in matt black powder coat. Other fixing systems are also available.

emka design solutions newsletter august 2017 3 mediumThe innovative EMKA 1056 180° hinge design packages a number of features of value to specialist enclosure and cabinet builders where it offers rapid fixing, together with high performance and low cost. This new 1056 program hinge is highly suited to simple box and lid installations where substantial quantity production is envisaged at low component cost, such as some electrical, electronic and pneumatic controls or instrumentation.

The novel clip-together design is executed in robust and corrosion-resistant polyamide, complete with plastic push rivet fixings. Since two identical hinge parts are used, they may be clipped together and installed on site using either the expanding pin system or emka design solutions newsletter august 2017 4 mediumconventional countersunk M5 screws. Both options provide high load capacity of 430N at 1mm deformation. This is comfortably compatible with similar zinc die hinges while cost of purchase and installation show significant savings. The 1056 is 40mm x 40mm and suitable for left hand or right hand fitting.

A presentation on the 1056 hinge is available at www.emkablog.co.uk/1056hinge.

Round rod locking systems are the traditional multi-point closure and locking system for electrical/electronic cabinets, so EMKA are delighted to offer a new “tip-on-and-twist” quick fit guide which makes the whole installation process so much easier.

emka design solutions newsletter august 2017 5 mediumNot only is the U47 guide quicker to fit, it also replaces two previous heights of screw-on rod guides and is lighter – therefore more environmentally friendly. This delightfully ingenious guide for traditional 8mm dia. rods fits by tipping onto a standard M6 weld stud and offers either 20mm rod clearance or 26mm to allow for deep doors and lock/actuator mechanisms. The same body is used and simply re-set to provide 20 or 26mm clearance as required; although a 16mm long weld stud or 20mm should be selected in manufacture to match the required length.
