Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, joined HRH the Duke of Gloucester, the Mayor of Torquay, distinguished guests, staff and students at the official opening of the double award winning Energy Centre at South Devon College last week.
The company shared stories with students from the college and local schools which gave an insight into the history and culture of Schneider Electric. The students were keen to learn about how the company believes in sharing its knowledge, through courses and the Schneider Teachers Foundation.
Schneider Electric continues to work alongside South Devon College developing creative and practical solutions that inspire young people throughout their education. From the newly installed SmartStruxure Building Management system, students are able to monitor and measure live data from all over the campus. This means that they are able to turn theory into practice and offers them a deeper understanding of the wider implications of energy use, as well as its impact on the planet.
The company has also sponsored a range of hardware rigs that will be used for hands-on training by the students, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of how each solution works. These include Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) kit and training rigs, plus a Building Management System.
Cass Swallow, head of strategy for the UK and Ireland, at Schneider Electric commented: “Our relationship with South Devon College is testament to this region’s desire to adapt to the changing needs of the future. We are honoured to have been asked to share our stories with those who attended the event and hope that Schneider Electric has been able to inspire them to think about their future careers.”
