WEG, the motors and drives specialist, has established a new company and production facility, WEG Algeria Motors Spa, in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, North Africa. Located in the Wilaya of Sétif province in north-eastern Algeria, the new plant is the latest development in WEG Group’s ongoing strategyto invest in growth in regions with high potential for industrial development.

WEG Algeria Motors Spa is a joint venture between WEG and CEVITAL Group, one of the largest private industrial conglomerates in Algeria which operates in different segments such as agriculture, retail, services and industry.

Algeria is a country of great opportunities, said Daniel Marteleto Godinho, director of institutional relations at WEG Group. “We are sure that our capacity to produce electric motors locally, counting on the competence of the Algerian people and the expertise of our local partners and suppliers, will allow us to contribute even more with the great economic growth of the country.

WEG Algeria Motors Spa will have a production capacity of one million motors per year. This includes the production and sale of electric motors for washing machines, with an initial focus on the Algerian and North African market.

It is estimated that 60 per cent of motor sales from the new facility will be distributed to the local Algeria market. The remaining 40 per cent will be exported, covering all performance requirements and international standards for the electric engineering, power and automation technology sectors.

The plant’s inauguration was held on November 29, 2022, and attended by Ahmed Zeghdar, the Algerian minister of industry, along with Flavio Marega, ambassador at the Embassy of Brazil. The new company will create more than 100 jobs, focussing on local production while also creating and promoting a network of subcontractors.

WEG seeks to create local jobs, said Godinho. “This means investing increasingly in human capital and the ability of our technical staff to innovate, generate wealth and develop corporate responsibility both in economic-financial and socio-environmental aspects.”

He added, We are very happy that Algeria sees, in the industrial sector, the potential to drive diversification of the economy and private sector investment, both domestic and foreign. Through the production and sale of electric motors, WEG will help develop Algeria’s industrial production capacity with higher value-added products, whilepromoting competitiveness and improving the business environment.
