Tezmaksan Robot Technologies and Mitsubishi Electric Europe have partnered to launch CubeBOX EDMCell, an advanced automation solution for wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM). The system combines Mitsubishi Electric’s EDM technology with Tezmaksan’s CubeBOX platform to deliver automated loading and unloading in a compact, modular design for continuous unmanned operation.

The project builds on a working relationship between the two companies that has developed over more than 15 years. CubeBOX EDMCell combines Tezmaksan’s automation expertise with Mitsubishi Electric’s EDM technology to provide a compact, modular and operator-friendly system that supports continuous production. The solution has been developed to help manufacturers improve utilisation, reduce manual handling and extend machine uptime without requiring major changes to existing production layouts.

Mitsubishi Electric’s EDM machines are known for their high precision and stable cutting performance, using advanced wire control and servo technologies to achieve fine surface finishes and consistent results in hard or complex materials. Meanwhile, Tezmaksan’s CubeBOX is a modular robotic automation platform designed for CNC machine tending, providing automated loading and unloading, part storage and transfer within a compact footprint that integrates easily with different machine tools.

By combining the two technologies, CubeBOX EDMCell enables automated loading and unloading of workpieces in wire EDM operations, allowing lights-out production overnight and on weekends. Its modular structure allows easy integration into existing EDM installations, while its compact footprint helps manufacturers make better use of limited floor space. The system’s design aims to support consistent accuracy and repeatability, particularly in the machining of complex or high-precision parts.

“This collaboration focuses on practical automation that delivers measurable value to manufacturers,” said Hakan Aydogu, general manager at Tezmaksan. “By combining our CubeBOX automation platform with Mitsubishi Electric’s EDM systems, we are creating a solution that improves efficiency, supports operators and maintains precision over long production runs.”

The first CubeBOX EDMCell was presented at EMO 2025 in Hannover, where it featured as part of Tezmaksan’s automation portfolio. The system is suitable for facilities aiming to increase production capacity without expanding staff numbers and is designed to operate continuously with minimal supervision.

Remote monitoring and diagnostics can be integrated into the system, supporting timely maintenance and reducing machine downtime. These capabilities allow manufacturers to plan production more effectively and respond quickly to process interruptions.

“Collaborations of this kind allow us to align automation capability with advanced EDM technology,” added Aydogu. “Our objective is to make automated EDM accessible to a wider range of manufacturers and to support the transition to more efficient, data-driven production.”

Tezmaksan and Mitsubishi Electric Europe plan to continue working together on automation solutions that combine flexibility, precision and reliability for a range of machining applications.
