WEG UK has been named Sustainable Organisation of the Year at the 2025 Association of Electrical & Mechanical Trades (AEMT) Awards. The accolade highlights WEG’s holistic approach to ESG, spanning sustainable products, circular operations, responsible supply chains and community engagement.

The award builds on WEG’s global ESG achievements, including the recent launch of its fully pre-verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) system for electric motors, which provides verified lifecycle data on environmental impacts and aligns with ISO 14025 standards.

Sustainability is embedded in WEG’s strategy through its four-pillar Sustainability Policy, focusing on: sustainable products and solutions, circular and efficient operations, engaged employees and communities and governance and ethical conduct. WEG’s ESG performance is independently validated through multiple major sustainability ratings, including a GOLD rating from EcoVadis, placing the company in the top two per cent of enterprises worldwide, a Low Risk rating (19.7) from Sustainalytics, inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index series (Score 4.1/5) and Prime status from ISS.

A highlight of WEG’s sustainability efforts is a tangible demonstration of its ESG commitments in the solar-powered agro-industry project on Ilha das Cinzas in the Amazon, developed in partnership with Natura and the Associação dos Trabalhadores Agroextrativistas da Ilha das Cinzas (ATAIC). WEG donated the photovoltaic panels and lithium battery energy storage system, providing renewable, reliable energy and reducing reliance on diesel generators. The project directly benefits 470 agroextractivist families, enabling them to process forest products locally and increase income by approximately 60 per cent. This project has tangible impact and was a key factor in WEG being recognised by the AEMT.

“Sustainability is at the heart of WEG’s business strategy,” said Marek Lukaszczyk, UK and Middle East marketing manager at WEG. “This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our team to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our operations.

“It’s a significant milestone that confirms our commitment to setting new benchmarks for sustainable practices. It also reflects how our focus on transparency and innovation underpins everything we do — from detailed ESG reporting and integrated annual reports to collaborations with universities and startups that drive continuous advancement in sustainable technologies

In 2024, 73 per cent of WEG’s revenue came from sustainable products, highlighting the company’s strategic focus on both innovation and environmental stewardship. What’s more, energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy adoption and electric mobility solutions contributed to a 28.2 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, in line with targets for a 52 per cent reduction by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. Waste valorisation and recycling improved the proportion of waste sent to landfill from 25.1 per cent in 2022 to 22 per cent in 2024, while recycling increased from 41.9 per cent to 51.1 per cent.
